CCOMM
are currently engaged in the design and implementation of a UK wide,
service rollout that fully integrates the provision of Voice, Video
and Data services over a converged network.
In many ways this represents the utopia of network
design and usage that corporations and small businesses alike have
been striving towards in recent years. All IP traffic is managed
by a central service made up of a number of components.
The end user initiates the majority of calls, point-to-point
and/or multipoint, video or audio, where the major emphasis is on
ease of use. The service is designed around the principle of simply
making a phone call, and video is added automatically if the endpoints
support it. Integrating the solution with conventional room-based
systems allows this concept to apply to all calls, be they desktop
or room-based, user initiated or pre-scheduled.
The service allows for the full range of enhanced
features available today to become a reality, users can choose between
scheduling a call with classic features such as operator welcome
and assistance, using the equipment control interface to launch
an ad-hoc conference or add a conference to their Instant Messenger
session. There is no distinction between audio and video, users
simply join the conference using whatever medium suits them best. |
